Osmosis Collection
by Arik Levy
Designed by Arik Levy for Swarovski Crystal Palace, Osmosis is Levy's collaboration with Tai Ping.
The collection illustrates the diverse ways in which Swarovski crystal can be used in design with the innovative yarns, techniques, and technologies that Tai Ping offers. Arik blends shiny fibers to create a bridge between the crystals and textiles. Artist, technician, photographer, designer, video artist, Levy's skills are multi–disciplinary and his work can be seen in prestigious galleries and museums worldwide. Best known publicly for his sculptures – such as his signature Rock pieces –, his installations, limited editions and design, Levy nevertheless feels "The world is about people, not objects."
Swarovski Crystal Palace chose Arik Levy to form a creative partnership for the design of Osmosis, a collection of crystal inspired objects and rugs. Arik Levy explored the transition of crystal from its real existence to it's virtual one through Tai Ping hand made and Axminster woven rugs. Osmosis presented visitors with a new sense of wonder and appreciation of the beauty and technology inherent in Swarovski crystal.
The integration of Tai Ping's carpets and rugs throughout the exhibition was a bold feature of the overall environment. Arik Levy took advantage of the high caliber and world class technologies that Tai Ping offers to mix sculpting and shiny bres to create a bridge between the crystals and the rugs. The effect is striking as it manifests itself in a two-dimensional and three-dimensional experience.
Osmosis is available in a variety of techniques, including hand-tufted and woven Axminster, and as many fibres as, silk, wool, cotton, and lurex.
